Endangered Dolphin Conservation in Chilika Lagoon

Dr. Manoranjan Mishra, Director

Chilika Lake, home to 151 Irrawaddy dolphins, faces threats like fishing and habitat degradation, reducing their numbers from 162 in 2021. Limited awareness hampers compliance with fishing regulations.

To safeguard Irrawaddy dolphins, our project focuses on research, community engagement, and awareness. We tackle threats like habitat loss, pollution, unsustainable fishing, bycatch, hunting, climate change, tourism impact, and habitat degradation from various sources.
