Using modern fishing methods to prevent lake pollution.
Adomah Philip
Bad and archaic methods of fishing in rivers and lakes affect the ocean. Since all water bodies are connected to the ocean , it will be helpful if we take good care of our lakes and rivers as well.
The use of fish ponds in farming fish on the river will help protect water bodies rather than using fishing nets and chemicals. All water bodies are connected to the ocean which means that , contaminated lakes can also contaminate the ocean which can lead to negative effects such as : 1. Physical Harm: Marine debris, particularly plastic, can entangle and injure or kill animals. Ingestion of plastic can cause starvation or internal injuries. 2.Disruption of Ecosystems: Chemical pollutants, such as oil spills and pesticides, can disrupt delicate ecosystems and negatively impact the delicate balance of marine life. 3.Reduced Biodiversity: Pollution can lead to the decline of certain species, impacting the overall biodiversity of the ocean. 4.Impact on Specific Species: Sea turtles, seabirds, marine mammals, and even plankton can all be harmed by ocean pollution. Just to mention few. Therefore in Oder to prevent this negativities. I would like to start from my own local area which I think will go a long way to help the entire universe . In order to start a fish pond I have to employ the following factors : 1.Wastewater Treatment: Solid and Toxin Removal: Fish farms should treat wastewater to remove solid waste like fecal matter and unconsumed feed. This can be done using sand filtration systems with activated charcoal, which also helps in disease prevention. 2.Nitrogen Removal: Wastewater also needs to be treated to remove nitrogen through denitrification processes before being returned to the lake. 3.Disease Prevention: Water can be further treated with UV-light or ozone to kill disease-causing agents before being returned to the lake. 4. Controlled Aquaculture Practices: Cage and Pen Systems: Using cage and pen systems can help minimize the dispersion of fecal matter and other pollutants into the surrounding lake water, according to Food and Agriculture Organization. These systems offer a more controlled environment for the fish, reducing the impact on the lake's ecosystem, says MDPI. Water Quality Monitoring: 5.Regular monitoring of water quality in the fish farm's system can help identify and address any potential issues early on. Instead of using innovative methods like this in fishing , my people here are still relying on ancient methods of fishing. They end up killing fingerlings and this has led to extinction of some species of fish and inadequate quantity of fish in the water bodies therefore there are forced to use dangerous methods such as the use of chemicals such as DDT in fishing in order to get more fish but not knowing they are causing harm to the entire water bodies and the ocean at large.
