Tide of Change: photography for Ocean Conservation

Ruth Emefa Toklo

Lack of awareness about marine ecosystems in Ada is leading to harmful practices like overfishing, poaching, and habitat destruction. Without education or connection to marine life, conservation efforts lack support and urgency remains ignored.

I will take vivid and high-quality images captured in local marine environments, the project will engage and educate communities about the importance of protecting the ocean. Regular exhibitions in high human traffic areas such as markets, churches, schools and community halls where these images will be paired with interactive educational sessions. To reach broader audience, the photographs will be printed on billboards and placed in key locations within communities and along roadsides creating a constant visual reminder of the value of the marine ecosystem. Also, the images will be printed on exercise books for school children. These approach aims to foster emotional connection, spark curiosity and encourage responsible behavior that supports long-term ocean conservation.
