Promoting Ocean Conservation through Sustainable Plastic Usage.
Batata Boris-Kaloff
Cameroon produces 600,000 tons of plastics yearly and majority of these plastics get into the ocean there by posing serious threats to marine life. This project seeks to promote ocean conservation through sustainable plastic usage
The solution is based on creating awareness through sensitization and the empowering these community members on sustainable ways they can best manage plastics so as to avoid the rampant dumping thus reducing the quantity of plastics that go into the ocean. Activities: Awareness: awareness will be done at different levels; firstly, work with selected institutions within these communities to either revamp or create environmental clubs so that students in these schools could be sensitized on the dangers of plastic pollution and the need to conserve our ocean. Awareness in communities: we shall work with community heads to mobilize community members so we sensitize them on how to properly manage plastics and the benefits of ocean conservation. Training: This will involve hands-on training on different ways through which community members can leverage on their waste. The training will be done at the level of students in the selected schools and community members. They will be trained on transforming plastics into breaks and other biowaste into charcoal.
