King's Day Clean-up After Party

Kristin S. Amadon, The FutureMakers

Each King’s Day leaves behind over 250,000 kg of trash, much of it flowing from Amsterdam’s canals into the ocean. One day of celebration becomes a lasting blow to our environment.

The King’s Day Clean-Up After Party transforms Amsterdam’s post-party waste into a platform for innovation and learning. By engaging students in real-world problem solving alongside businesses, city services, and sustainability partners, the project turns cleanup into education, and celebration into civic action. It’s a collaborative solution that builds skills, fosters connection, and protects our environment—starting at the street level. This is true social innovation, action and strategic doing.
